“The tax agency followed a fair process when it gave out this contract. A Canadian supplier is not just about who owns the company. It is about whether the company is registered here, creates Canadian jobs, pays taxes, and helps our economy.”

“Being a Canadian supplier is not simply a question of who owns the shares of a company.”

Mr. Speaker, as I said earlier, the Canada Revenue Agency followed a fair and open procurement process when awarding this contract, but it is an important point, as we drill down on the buy Canadian policy, to talk about what we mean when we say “Canadian supplier”. A supplier is not simply a question of who owns the shares of a company. We need to look at where the economic activity is taking place. That means having a business registered in Canada, creating jobs in this country, paying taxes and generating economic output. That is what we expect from Canadian suppliers, and that is what we will continue to uphold.
