Discussion · Government Orders
Claude DeBellefeuille Bloc Québécois
“This bill does nothing for seniors. Seniors aged 65 to 74 did not get the 10 percent increase to their pensions that older seniors got. I want to know what the government will do for them.”
“Madam Speaker, it is always riveting to hear my colleague speak in the House and witness his vibrant spirit and passion after all these years. We can tell that he is just as committed and engaged as ever. My question is fairly straightforward. One thing is conspicuous by its absence from the bill currently under discussion and from the amendments under debate, and that is seniors. The seniors who built the Quebec and Canada of today are completely absent from Bill C‑31, yet they are facing an injustice, because retirees aged 65 to 74 have not received a 10% increase in their old age security. Frankly, I would like to hear the parliamentary secretary give a different answer than “They got dental care”. What do we tell these seniors, who are not getting as much OAS as seniors 75 and older even though they need it too?”
