“Many seniors in my riding say it is unfair that people aged 65 to 74 get less support than those 75 and older. My bill would end this difference and give them the same help. I want to know if the member will support my bill and help seniors get their buying power back.”
“Madam Speaker, I always enjoy listening to my colleague from Louis-Saint-Laurent—Akiawenhrahk. I think that he is eloquent and experienced. At the end of his speech, he asked a good question: Does anyone feel they are better off? In my riding, 22% of the population is seniors 65 and over. Every time I go out in my riding, they talk to me about how unfair it is that seniors 65 to 74 are treated differently from those 75 and over. My bill, Bill C-261, will fix that injustice and stop the discrimination between the two groups of seniors. Can the member for Louis-Saint-Laurent—Akiawenhrahk tell me whether he will support Bill C‑261 and, more importantly, whether he thinks that seniors deserve to regain their purchasing power?”
