“Police and local leaders tell me the justice system fails to keep us safe, even when they know who the criminals are. This budget barely spends any money on public safety. Is there anything in this bill that will actually make Canadians safer?”

Mr. Speaker, I want to ask my friend, who just talked about some of his previous life experience, about this. The member for Oxford was recently in my riding doing a round table about the failures of the criminal justice system in this country and its ability to keep Canadians safe. The recurring theme that I heard from municipal leaders and law enforcement was that they know who the bad guys are. They know what they are doing. This is a common theme that we hear. I wonder if my colleague would like to expand on the budget’s massive amount of non-investment, for lack of a better term. Is there anything in the budget implementation act that is going to help our justice system actually make Canadians safer?
