“I have concerns about this bill. Our health care system is stretched thin, and doctors need to be able to verify how long someone has been sick. Without the right supports in place to carry out this law, some people will die before their chosen time.”
“Mr. Speaker, based on our discussions in caucus, the proposed bill was not necessarily intended only for people who have been living with a mental illness for 20 years. We also know that our health care system is stretched to the limit. I think that doctors need to make informed decisions and verify whether a condition has truly persisted for 20 years. I think that some people are going to die before their chosen time simply because we lack the supports needed to implement this kind of legislation.”
