“Canadians have been debating medically assisted dying since the early 1990s. People should have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and their own lives.”

Mr. Speaker, I want to quote Stefanie Green, who is a practitioner, on the issue of MAID. This goes back to the case of Ms. Rodriguez, which dates back to 1991, when the debate was ongoing in Canada. “After learning what lay ahead for her, she wanted a doctor to be able to give her medication to end her life when she felt the time was right, so that her death could be quick and certain.” She then goes on to quote Ms. Rodriguez: “If I cannot give consent to my own death, whose body is this? Who owns my life?” I note that because it is important that we recognize that the debate on this in Canada has been going on since the early 1990s.
