Luc Thériault Bloc Québécois
“The member says expanding medically assisted dying to people with mental illness is dangerous because our health care system is not ready. Yet he does not support sending more health care money to the provinces to fix the system. It makes no sense to delay this service while refusing to pay for the care people need.”
“Mr. Speaker, I heard my colleague say that, when it comes to mental illness, moving forward while the health care system is not equipped to treat people would be catastrophic. However, I did not hear my colleague call for a 35% increase in health transfers, as the Bloc Québécois has done. Not wanting people to face discrimination indefinitely because they have been resistant to treatment for decades, and wanting to wait until our system is effective, while also not transferring the funds needed to make it so, seems rather illogical to me.”
