“I oppose letting people get help to end their lives through advance requests. A person must be able to clearly agree and change their mind. If they cannot change their mind, they have lost their choice. This goes against court rulings, ethics, and moral law.”

Mr. Speaker, my colleague’s question is central to the issue of medical assistance in dying, MAID. The Carter case said that MAID can be applied only when the person clearly consents. Being able to change their mind is part of that autonomy. If a patient cannot withdraw their consent, there is no longer autonomy. I think it goes against the Carter case. It certainly goes against ethics and moral law.
