Discussion · Government Orders
Andrew Lawton Conservative
“This bill forces a 30-day wait if a doctor is unsure whether a patient is refusing medically assisted death. The government wrote bad legislation, so we should not rush to pass it.”
“Mr. Speaker, I would ask the member to read the next paragraph: If the medical practitioner or nurse practitioner is in doubt as to whether the person’s words, sounds or gestures constitute a demonstration of refusal or resistance to having the substance administered to them, they must not, at that time or at any time within the following 30 clear days, administer the substance to the person. If the government cannot even get its own legislation right, why is it forcing us to pass it through on an expedited timeline?”
