“Diseases like Alzheimer's take away a person's ability to choose to die with dignity. I want my colleague to explain why we should listen to people with these illnesses and let them make this choice in advance, while they still can.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, as my colleague said, tonight’s debate deals with fundamental issues of dignity and autonomy regarding the options available to people suffering from incurable illnesses. We have heard various accounts from people suffering from diseases such as Alzheimer’s, a condition that robs them of the choice to die with dignity. I would like to ask my colleague why it is important to listen to the experiences of these individuals and to establish a framework that will allow them to make a free and informed choice while they are still able to do so.
