“Doctors have asked for shared patient records for ten years, and almost all of them say a lack of access hurts their work. The Liberals let a bill to fix this die when they called an election. I want the minister to explain why it took so long to bring it back.”
“Madam Speaker, I was really struck by my colleague’s comment that 92% of practising physicians have been hampered by lack of access to information about their patients. The Canadian Medical Association and other medical organizations have been calling for this for a decade. The Competition Tribunal, in June 2022, identified the behaviour of electronic medical record providers as being anti-competitive, and of course we had Bill C-72 before the previous Parliament. My question for the minister, given that the Liberals let Bill C-72 die on the Order Paper when they called an election last January, is, what took them so long?”
