“I want the House to pass this bill quickly and send it to committee. Once it passes, we can finish making the rules with the provinces and territories. If we act fast, that work could be done in less than a year.”
“Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for working with us to move this bill forward. I know how important this bill is to him. Today is a positive step forward. The bill has already passed the Senate and is now before the House, which will refer it to a committee. Once the bill has been passed, we will be able to develop the regulations. We have already started working with the provinces and territories, but this will allow us to formalize that work. While it will still take several months to put the regulations in place, if the bill is passed quickly, I expect the entire process could be completed in less than a year.”
