“I oppose this health care bill. It lets the federal government judge and overrule Quebec's technology policies. Health care belongs to the provinces, and the federal government should not interfere.”
“Madam Speaker, a little while ago, I was listening to the Minister of Health, who said, in response to a question from the member for Montcalm, that she would table the clause demonstrating that the provinces’ areas of jurisdiction will be respected. After a close reading of the bill, it quickly becomes apparent that, and I can see that my colleague from Québec Centre agrees with me on this, the federal government is leaving the door open to the possibility of assessing the Quebec government’s IT policies and deciding whether they are valid. That is completely unacceptable. I therefore hold out little hope that the minister will see the light and amend the preamble to this bill to clearly affirm that health care falls within provincial jurisdiction and that the federal government should not interfere.”
