“This bill gives the minister too much power over health data. Quebec wants to control its own health care system. I am asking the member to support a change to the bill that says Quebec stays in charge of its own health policies.”
“Mr. Speaker, my colleague’s speech clearly reflected the concerns of an excellent physician from Yukon. We had the opportunity to serve together on the Standing Committee on Health. The bill gives the minister the discretion to impose her intentions by order in council. When the pan-Canadian interoperability road map was announced, Quebec indicated that it would not be moving in that direction, while remaining open to the possibility of sharing information. In keeping with what the Minister of Health said this morning about being determined to respect Quebec’s jurisdiction, would my colleague be open to adding a preamble specifying that Quebec remains in control of its health policies?”
