Mr. Speaker, as we begin Veterans’ Week, I rise to pay tribute to World War II veteran Margaret Heinmiller. Marg passed away this week at the age of 101. Born in Berkshire, England, she came to Canada at the age of four, and when World War II broke out, she was determined to serve. She joined the Royal Canadian Navy, the senior service, as she was quick to tell us, and almost joined the air force. Like so many of her great generation, when Marg’s service in uniform ended, her service to the community continued. She was the first woman to join the Listowel Legion in 1947 and was the first woman president of the Palmerston Legion. Even at 101 years old, Marg was quick with a witty joke, often delivered while on one of her daily walks down Main Street in Palmerston. Our hearts are with Marg’s family and loved ones. On behalf of a grateful nation, Bravo Zulu, Marg. I thank you for your service.
