“Fishing families in southwest New Brunswick are struggling with high fuel costs and taxes on their gear. The government spends too much money and passes the costs to Canadians. I want the next budget to cut taxes, stop printing money, and end wasteful spending.”

Mr. Speaker, lobster season opens November 10 in southwest New Brunswick. Fishing families along the Bay of Fundy are ready to work, but many are worried about making ends meet. Before setting day, diesel is already up 50% in a year. It is made worse by the Liberals’ clean fuel tax that adds 19¢ a litre to diesel and 15¢ a litre to gasoline. Every boat carries hundreds of lobster traps; they have now been hit with a Canadian tariff. Our fishermen are literally paying their own government in Ottawa just to go to work. These men and women work hard, follow the rules and pay their taxes. They are the backbone of coastal communities. They work as hard as ever, pay more and fall further behind. This is a story across Canada, worsened by 11 years of massive deficit spending. It is a government that spends well beyond its means and passes the costs to Canadians. The budget must cut taxes, stop inflationary money printing and end its wasteful spending. Canadians deserve nothing less.
