Gabriel Ste-Marie Bloc Québécois

“This budget is bad for Quebec. The government cut health care funding instead of raising it. It did not repay the $700 million it owes Quebec for asylum seekers. It is interfering in things it does not control, like the power grid, and it set immigration targets without asking Quebec. I am asking the Conservative leader why the government refused to listen to Quebec.”

Mr. Speaker, Quebec asked Ottawa to increase its share of health care funding, but Ottawa reduced it. Quebec asked that the $700-million debt related to asylum seekers be repaid, but there is not a single word on the subject. We have a centralizing government that is meddling in this budget, with the electricity grid for example. Furthermore, there is an announcement regarding immigration targets on which Quebec was obviously not consulted. According to the leader of the Conservative Party, why did this centralizing government refuse to listen to or negotiate with Quebec before drafting this budget?
