“The Prime Minister broke his promise to lower the country's debt compared to its economy. The debt is actually growing. It is even worse than it looks because he hides hundreds of billions of dollars from the official count. This budget adds $465 billion in uncounted spending. Canadians will still have to pay that money back. I want the government to stop spending like this and save Canadians money.”
“Mr. Speaker, no, the Prime Minister broke that promise. He said that he was going to reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio and it is actually rising. By the way, I should point out it is not as bad as it sounds; it is far worse, because the debt that is in fact calculated into the debt-to-GDP ratio does not include the hundreds of billions of dollars that he is keeping off the budget with unprecedented financial engineering. This budget seeks to put $465 billion of off-budget spending on the backs of Canadians. In other words, two-thirds of the new debt the Prime Minister would add is unbudgeted and uncounted in the spending system. Just because someone gambles away a fortune in Vegas on the company credit card does not mean that somebody does not have to pay it back. Canadians are going to be stuck paying it back. It is time to take the load off the backs of Canadians and fight to save them money.”
