“Our budget plan is working. It helps grow the economy and brings in private investment. Because of this growth, our deficit this year is $27.5 billion lower than we predicted in the spring. Business investments are up by 9 percent, and my colleagues should see this as good news.”
“Mr. Speaker, that is a great question. What we have done very transparently is define a capital budgeting framework with a set of definitions that corresponds to best practices around the world. We have set ourselves up to invest in the economy, draw in and attract private capital and ensure that the economy can grow. That is exactly what we have seen. My colleagues should remember that there is $27.5 billion less of a deficit in this budget, in this fiscal year, than was projected in the spring economic update. That is good news for this country. That is a result of growth in the economy and of new capital investment. We are seeing it rise at 9%. That is significant, and all colleagues should be able to recognize that.”
