“I oppose this budget because it borrows too much. In five years, we will pay $85 billion a year just on debt interest. That cost could reach $100 billion to $125 billion later. Our children and grandchildren will have to pay for it instead of having that money spent on their future.”
“Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for his very thoughtful question. I am worried too. I am worried about what life will be like for my children and especially for my grandchildren. The budget’s projections extend as far as 2060. In 2060, my grandchildren will be paying for today’s disastrous budget and its long-term consequences. Five years from now, we will already be paying $85 billion a year. What will it be 10 or 15 years from now? Will we be spending $100 billion or $125 billion on debt payments alone? Think of what this money could have done for our grandchildren’s future.”
