“Our budget invests heavily in French-language communities. It spends 400 million dollars for a French summit, 4.1 billion dollars for official languages, and 4 billion dollars for culture. It also sets a 9.5 percent target for French-speaking immigrants. I want to know if my colleague supports these investments.”
“Mr. Speaker, I salute my colleague. We serve together on the Standing Committee on Official Languages. The budget includes $400 million for the Francophonie summit. We are continuing to implement our official languages action plan, which is backed by a $4.1-billion investment. This is the largest investment in official languages in history. Culture is receiving $4 billion, which will have benefits for Canada’s francophonie. Next year’s francophone immigration target is 9.5%, setting francophone communities back on the path to growth. Is my colleague as excited as I am about what yesterday’s budget does for Canada’s francophonie?”
