Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

During question period on immigration, the Conservatives said the immigration system is broken, arguing that fraudulent refugee claims and criminals are getting through and that asylum claims should not be used as a shortcut, and asked what the government will do to stop this. “Canada's immigration system is broken. Criminals and fake refugees are getting into the country, which pushes out the skilled workers we need. I want to know what the government will do to stop criminals from coming here.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, Canada’s immigration system is a mess. Fake refugees and criminals are slipping through the cracks and receiving preferential treatment from the Liberal government. Asylum claims should not be a shortcut to immigration. The Liberals must ensure that abuse is detected quickly and that the resources allocated to immigration serve Canadians appropriately. What is the Liberal government going to do to prevent criminals from immigrating to Canada and crowding out the skilled workers we actually need?

Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
