“I support this bill. It finally lets people ask for medical assistance in dying in advance, before a terminal illness takes away their ability to choose. When will we deal with the rules for mental illness?”
“Mr. Speaker, I want to say that I am truly happy, but it is hard to be happy given the subject of a bill like this. I support this bill, and I want to thank the government for finally allowing advance requests. I hear it from my constituents all the time, and other Canadians, when somebody has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and they know their capacity to ask for this will come to an end soon. I am very relieved, but I do think we will have to return to the question of mental health issues and medical assistance in dying. Does the hon. member know when we might be returning to that subject once Bill C-41 is passed?”
