“I condemn the armed attack on a church in Jordan that killed nine Christians and hurt 40 others. All religious groups have the right to be safe. I stand with the people of Jordan and all Christians in the Middle East.”
“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to condemn the horrific attack against Christians in the kingdom of Jordan that took place last Friday, when armed fanatics stormed a Greek Orthodox church and killed nine people and injured 40 during a funeral. They were killed only because they were Christians. I appreciate and value the response and support of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and the Jordanian authorities. All minorities have an inalienable right to safety and dignity under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, whether they are Muslim, Jewish or Christian. This attack is an assault on humanity and on the idea of peaceful coexistence between communities. I stand in solidarity with the people of Jordan as well as with all Christians in the Middle East. May the victims rest in peace and may they live on forever in our memory.”
