“I want to congratulate the Manitoba Islamic Association on 50 years. They opened the province's first mosque 50 years ago and now serve thousands of Muslims in Manitoba. I thank the Muslim community for their contributions to our province.”

“Mr. Speaker, 50 years ago, a small group of Muslim families opened Manitoba’s first mosque on Hazelwood Avenue in Winnipeg, now known as the Pioneer Mosque. The community grew, and the Manitoba Islamic Association opened the Winnipeg Grand Mosque on Waverley Street in 2007. I remember people wondering why it was built so far out of town. Today, it stands at the heart of the thriving neighbourhood of Waverley West in Winnipeg South, serving thousands in Manitoba’s growing Muslim community. My friendships with families like the El Tassis and the Zeids go back decades. Through Ramadan Iftars, community gatherings and my work helping families reunite in Canada, those friendships have grown manyfold. The MIA continues to build bridges of understanding, welcoming neighbours of every faith to its open houses and other community events. I thank Manitoba’s Muslim community for their friendship, their trust and their tremendous contributions to our province, and I congratulate them on 50 remarkable years.”

“Too many First Nations communities still do not have safe drinking water. I want the minister to explain how this bill will give First Nations control over their water and make sure it is safe to drink.”

“Mr. Speaker, for far too long, too many first nations have gone without access to safe drinking water, which every community deserves. Could the Minister of Indigenous Services explain how Bill C-37 would strengthen first nations’ jurisdiction over water while helping to ensure safe, reliable drinking water for first nations across Canada?”

“First Nations in Ontario want to care for their own children. Can the minister update the House on the recent human rights decision and how it helps them do that?”

“Mr. Speaker, for far too long, first nations leaders and communities in Ontario have called for a child and family services system that reflects their cultures, their priorities and the right to care for their own children. Can the Minister of Indigenous Services update the House on the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal’s decision on the Ontario final agreement and how this historic milestone advances first nations‑led child and family services reform?”

“I am presenting a committee report on mining critical minerals in Canada. The committee wants the government to write a full response to it.”

“Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the third report of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, entitled “‘An Extraordinary Opportunity for Canada’: The Development of Critical Minerals”. Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requests that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.”
