“Higher interest rates are hurting Canadians, especially seniors on fixed incomes who cannot afford their homes and food. The Liberal government caused this crisis and broke its promises. Conservatives want to lower taxes and make housing affordable so seniors can retire in peace.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, today’s interest rate hikes by the Bank of Canada are another blow to Canadians already struggling to survive. For seniors on a fixed income, this increase means choosing among mortgage payments, keeping a car on the road and putting food on the table. Maria, a senior from Vaughan, was forced from her home because she could no longer afford it. She now rents a basement from another senior who relies on that income to pay for her own mortgage, yet she also is struggling to survive. This is the reality of the affordability crisis under the Liberal government, which they voted against. Liberals are making unkept promises while seniors are making the sacrifices. Conservatives are fighting for lower taxes, affordable homes and a Canada where seniors can retire with dignity and respect.
