Air Transportation

During question period on air transportation, a Conservative member said a flight simulator at the Diamond Flight Centre in London has sat idle for over a year because of delays at Transport Canada, and asked the minister to end the delays so students can train for pilot jobs during a pilot shortage. The parliamentary secretary replied that the government is investing in workers across the aviation, rail, and port sectors and invited the opposition to support that work.Written by AI from the debate. “Government delays at Transport Canada have kept a flight simulator in London sitting idle for over a year. Students need this simulator to train for pilot jobs during a pilot shortage. I want the minister to end the delays so the centre can train pilots.”

Mr. Speaker, I tried the simulator at the Diamond Flight Centre in London, which has sat idle for over a year thanks to Liberal delays at Transport Canada. This vital training tool prepares young Canadians for high-demand pilot jobs, allowing them to practise life-saving emergencies, the exact skills training needed to fill the growing pilot shortage, yet Liberal red tape leaves it gathering dust while costs mount. The equipment and students are ready, except the Liberal government stands in the way. When will the minister end this Liberal bottleneck so that the Diamond Flight Centre can train the next generation of pilots?

Mr. Speaker, when we think about transport, what we are doing within the ministry and within the department is build up our human capital and investment, whether it is in the aviation sector, the rail sector or the port sector. When we look at the level and depth of what we are doing, as I said before to one of the last questions, I wish the members opposite would join us.
