Housing

During Question Period on housing, Conservative Pierre Poilievre said Canadians have lost hope of owning a home more than people in 21 other countries, citing a Habitat for Humanity survey, and asked the Prime Minister to move from promises to building more homes people can buy. Liberal Mark Carney replied that the government is helping families now, noting 12 million Canadians received payments this week through the Canada groceries and essentials benefit, and said the government is building more affordable housing.Written by AI from the debate. “Canadians have given up on owning a home more than people in 21 other countries. I want the Prime Minister to stop making promises and actually build more homes people can buy.”

Mr. Speaker, this Liberal Prime Minister is costing Canadians dearly. He is all talk and no action. He is also out of touch with reality. He is out of touch when it comes to food and also when it comes to housing. According to a Habitat for Humanity survey conducted in 22 countries, Canadians are the most likely to have given up on the dream of home ownership. They are twice as likely to have abandoned that dream as people in half of the 22 countries surveyed. When will the Prime Minister stop making big promises and creating more bureaucracy and start increasing the supply of homes that people can buy?

Mr. Speaker, here is what is really happening for Canadian families. I just got here, and this week, 12 million Canadians received cheques from the Government of Canada through the Canada groceries and essentials benefit. When it comes to housing affordability, we are building affordable housing through Build Canada Homes.
