Health

During question period on health, a Liberal member asked the Minister of Health what the government is doing to help Canadian innovation, citing earlier changes to the clinical trials framework. The minister replied that the government had introduced Bill S-7, the Cutting Red Tape for All Canadians Act, the previous day, and said the bill would make rules and regulations clearer so Canadians spend less time on paperwork. The bill covers a wide range of administrative simplifications across agricultural marketing, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, environment, fisheries, transport and other sectors.Written by AI from the debate. “We cut red tape for clinical trials, which brought in $3.3 billion and saved drug companies $16 million. What else is the Minister of Health doing to help Canadian innovation?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, in these difficult, unprecedented times, Canadians’ creativity and genius must not be held in check by red tape. Our government was supposed to make that happen, and it did. Earlier this year, we modernized the clinical trials framework, attracted $3.3 billion in investments in the process, and saved the pharmaceutical industry $16 million. That is what we were supposed to do. I have a question for the Minister of Health. What other measures is the government taking to unleash Canadian creativity?

“We introduced a new bill yesterday. It cuts red tape so Canadians spend less time on paperwork.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the member for calling attention to this important work. Indeed, yesterday, we introduced Bill S-7, the cutting red tape for all Canadians act. This bill will help Canadians spend less time on paperwork by making rules and regulations clearer and, most of all, more efficient. By limiting red tape and bureaucracy, we ensure that the government is meeting the expectations of all Canadians more effectively.
