Replying to Marie-Hélène Gaudreau (Bloc Québécois)
“Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to my colleague’s speech. He is well aware that the government has a long-standing relationship with this organization, whose social mission is to help our veterans transition to civilian life is. The response we are hearing is that this decision was a matter of efficiency, taken in response to the current context, and that few thousand people is minor. The government upended an arrangement that had existed for over a hundred years. How does my colleague think a veteran would react to hearing that?”

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate my colleague’s valuable work with me on the health committee. Yes, we do have a social contract with our veterans, and there are established practices, but of course we talk about things that have been going on for over 100 years. A hundred years is a long time. There are going to be changes in our processes. Our government procurement decisions have to be made with the best decisions for all stakeholders in Canada at the time.
