“Trained tradespeople will leave Newfoundland and Labrador if there are no good jobs for them. Investment in offshore oil and gas has dropped by 40 percent in the last decade, and that fails our young people.”
“Mr. Speaker, I thank the member opposite for visiting my beautiful province. My response is that if we do not have an economy that has opportunity for our tradespeople, we can train them all we want, but they are not going to stay in the province if they do not have those good-paying jobs. We have an offshore oil and gas sector that has watched investment completely flee the province, with a 40% reduction in investment over the last decade. This is an example of how we are failing the young people in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
