“I do not support this fuel tax cut. It does not lower food prices or transit costs. If the government really wanted to help public transit, it would not have cut transit funding for the provinces.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, maybe he is just killing time, but the minister told us this was a targeted measure to help people. Then he told us it affects everyone. Clearly, the goal is to have a direct impact on people’s wallets, not through lower transportation costs, which in turn lowers this and that. The purpose of this measure is not to lower food prices through the supply chain. That takes something else. If they want to support public transit, then why did they cut the public transit budget? Why did they reduce funding to the provinces for public transit? That would help our public transit systems and our infrastructure. That is a real issue, unlike claiming that “if we lower the excise tax through a 14th degree effect via Mars, it will have an impact on the STM in Montreal.” Come on, now.
