“I do not have confidence in the Prime Minister. The Liberals use fear of Donald Trump to stay in power, break their promises, and pass policies they never campaigned on. The Prime Minister does not respect democracy, and the Liberals always say one thing and do another.”
“Mr. Speaker, that is a pretty broad question. Why should we have confidence in the Liberals? Personally, I put my face on a blue poster. There are many shades of blue. I believe that today’s Liberals are using fear as their weapon of choice. They are using Donald Trump. He is their main political ally. Fear has allowed them to consolidate support. That is why they are able to walk back their promises. That is why they are able to implement policies that were never even mentioned during the election campaign. It is fear that affords them this freedom. However, this freedom that the Prime Minister grants himself ought to be tempered by a respect for democracy, but the Prime Minister does not seem to have that. He appears to believe that, because the political winds are currently in his favour, he can do as he pleases and take full advantage of it. Does that mean that I, as an MP who is witnessing this, who knows the details of the policies and who is informed about the finer points, have confidence in the Prime Minister? The answer is unequivocally no. I believe these are people who say one thing and do another. I also believe that this tendency is deeply embedded in the DNA of the Liberal Party of Canada.”
