“We need a strong regulator to enforce this bill. Big tech companies will try to weaken the rules. Free speech and parents' rights are important to talk about, but we need a regulator to hold these companies accountable and actually protect children.”
“Mr. Speaker, it is important to have a regulator with some teeth. Again, we can talk about letting parents parent and about the concerns about free speech, which are genuine and need to be discussed in this place, but in the absence of a regulator to enforce the bill and to hold companies to account, it is going to be a challenge. These are powerful companies that are going to do whatever they can to water down this bill. I have seen it before, but we have to do our best to provide actual concrete protections for our children, and I believe the commission would do that.”
