“I agree with the member about respecting veterans and our military. The government broke its promise to buy local, and I do not understand why. I want to know if any studies show that it is safe to hand over these big defence duties to an American private company.”
“Madam Speaker, I want to begin by commending my colleague on his speech. On the issue of respect for our veterans and our armed forces, we are on the same page. I think it is important to acknowledge that today. On the issue of buying local, I cannot get over it. The government’s decision not to make good on the commitments made by the Prime Minister himself is quite troubling. I do not understand it. I still cannot make sense of it. That said, I have a serious question that is kind of underlying all of this. In his opinion, have any studies been conducted on safety issues? Has any study been conducted to determine whether or not it is safe to transfer such significant responsibilities, which affect all Canadians and Quebeckers, to a private agency under U.S. jurisdiction? I must admit that I am quite concerned about this.”
