“I am worried about this big budget bill. Experts tell us that putting so many things into one bill hurts our democracy. The public does not know what is in it, and we need to look at its effects much more carefully.”
“Madam Speaker, I have wondered many times whether this is wilful blindness or some form of hypnosis. In all seriousness, my job is to look at all of the potential impacts. However, every person we talk to, including the procurement ombud, tells us that the current omnibus bills, particularly Bill Budget 2025 Implementation Act, No. 2, but also Bill C-39, represent a serious departure from democratic principles. Yes, we need to continue to do our work because people are not aware of what is happening. I am wondering to what extent the government sees what is coming.”
