“The Conservatives are making up connections between trade talks and upcoming by-elections because they are worried about those votes. They contradict themselves by telling us to negotiate with the Americans while telling us not to talk to them, and by asking us to support workers while complaining about the money we spend to protect our industries. We know what to do, and we will do it well.”

Mr. Speaker, once again, we see the Conservatives’ completely understandable anxiety about the by-elections. However, they are trying to create a link that does not exist. On the one hand, they want us to engage with our American counterparts and negotiate an agreement. On the other hand, they do not want us to talk to them. On the one hand, they want us to support Canadian workers, but on the other hand, they say we are spending too much as we stand up for the interests of Canadians and our industries. We know what we need to do, and we are going to do it well.
