“Doctors have shared real concerns with me about this bill. Conservatives already agree that people should not receive medically assisted dying just for mental illness. The real issue is that we need stronger rules to protect vulnerable people, and that is our job as lawmakers.”

Mr. Speaker, I did not hear a question, but I can say that doctors have reached out who are sharing legitimate concerns about this bill. Again, we as Conservatives agree on the mental illness stuff. We have been leading the charge on that. My colleague sitting right beside me, with Bill C-218, has led the charge on that, so there is no debate regarding that. The debate is regarding the safeguards that are needed. Irrespective of what members’ beliefs are and what side they are on, it is our duty as parliamentarians to make sure that safeguards are in place to protect the most vulnerable. That is where we stand.
