“The federal government makes the criminal laws for medically assisted dying, but the provinces run health care. I want to know if the provinces are ready to handle advance requests. Are they ready to watch over doctors and nurses to make sure it is done safely?”

Mr. Speaker, medical assistance in dying and health care are matters of shared jurisdiction. Criminal law is defined at the federal level, while the provinces are responsible for delivering health care. I would like to hear my colleague’s thoughts on how the provinces are prepared to manage the transition to advance requests. Are they adequately equipped to supervise health care professionals to ensure that it is carried out safely?
