“We need health data to make progress and save lives, but control matters. The federal government should not keep all the data to itself. We should trust the provinces and territories to collect their own data, and then share it together.”

Madam Speaker, my colleague is right to a large extent. Indeed, without data, how can we act? Scientists say that they want to do more, but that we have decades of data to compile before we can make changes. That said, it matters who has the control. Consider, for example, a father who tells all his kids that he is going to manage everything and keep all the information to himself. We prefer self-determination. We believe that each of the children, the provinces and territories, should be trusted and provided with whatever they need to obtain that data. Then, these data can be pooled together to save lives.
