“I want this bill to pass. Patient health records should belong to patients and their care, not to private companies. Sharing this data cuts down on paperwork so doctors and nurses can spend more time with patients. Some groups have concerns, but that should not stop this plan.”

Madam Speaker, what I am hearing is that we share the same objectives. That is really very important. Health data belong to the patient’s own continuum of care. They should not belong to a vendor or to anyone else. This is what we are trying to do, and it is very important that my colleagues opposite know about it. If health care professionals have less paperwork to do, then they will have more time to spend caring for their patients. That is very important. There may be criticisms from certain organizations. That is normal. It is part of our job to listen to them, but this should not in any way interfere with measures that we want to put in place. This is the solution that we have all agreed on to give everyone access to this data. This is really about integrating health data.
