“I oppose this bill. It is easy to make rules for companies, but companies can just send in paperwork saying they followed them. The Liberal government takes in money and holds meetings, but it never actually delivers results.”
“Mr. Speaker, I really appreciate the member and his intervention. I think it comes down to one thing. It is really easy to pass legislation that forces other entities, in this case companies, usually very large organizations, to comply with particular standards. Again, whether they actually do it or not, they can send in the paperwork required and say they meet all of the requirements under the interoperability provisions of Bill S-5. That is there. However, it is different when the rule-maker now has to be the person to deliver. That seems to be where the Liberal government continues to slide. It is like a vacuum that money, good intentions, announcements, meetings, everything gets thrown into, but nothing ever seems to come out. That is what I think Conservatives are opposed to.”
