“Sharing health data between systems helps keep Canadians safe. But this bill sets up data sharing without protecting Canada's control over our own data. Why are we not doing both at the same time? We are putting Canadian health data at risk.”

Mr. Speaker, I agree wholeheartedly that data transfer between departments and interchangeability are extremely important to help reduce harm in Canada. One thing the member mentioned in her speech is that the bill would lay the foundation for data transferability within Canada, but it would not complete the conversation on data sovereignty. How can we lay the foundation for data transfer but not at the same time lay the foundation for data sovereignty? If we are not doing that, are we not be putting health data in Canada at risk?
