“I want today's budget to lower costs for Canadians and businesses. We should cut gas taxes to make food and other goods cheaper. We should also cut wasteful government spending and reduce red tape for businesses. The Prime Minister promised life would be affordable, but everything has become more expensive.”

Mr. Speaker, the budget will be tabled in less than two hours, and we, the Conservatives, want Canadians to have more money in their pockets. That is why we are proposing to eliminate gas taxes, which have a real impact on the cost of food and other goods, to reduce wasteful and inflationary spending and to save Canadians money at the pumps, at the grocery store and everywhere else. For businesses, we want what they want: less bureaucracy. Incidentally, I commend the representative of the Association hôtelière de la région de Québec who came to Ottawa to highlight the hotel industry’s contribution to Quebec’s economic growth. Six hundred million dollars in spinoffs is good, but too much bureaucracy is not. Although the Prime Minister, the prominent banker, promised affordability, everything has become more expensive since he took over. For the sake of all Canadians, we are hoping for a responsible budget.
