“Many Canadians struggle with mental health, especially men and boys who find it hard to speak up. Our government is spending a historic amount of money on mental health and addiction care so people can get help without judgment.”
“Mr. Speaker, mental health is an issue I care about deeply. Over half of Canadians aged 40 or more have confronted a mental health problem at some point. They could be our friends, neighbours or loved ones. In the Plateau and Mile End, we are fortunate to have the Regroupement des organismes pour hommes de l’Île de Montréal, or ROHIM, the Centre d’apprentissage parallèle, the Suivi communautaire le fil and many other community organizations to turn to. Our federal government has just announced a historic investment in mental health and addictions. As Movember begins, we are reminded that one in five Canadians has already had a problem with mental health. That is huge, and we know that men have trouble breaking the silence. The results of our consultation on men and boys’ health shows that we need to do much more, which is why our government is making a historic investment in mental health and addictions. I would like all those struggling out there to know that they matter and we see them. They deserve care when they need it, and they deserve it without judgment.”
