Adjournment Proceedings

A debate where a Conservative MP asked the Liberal government about their spending on Canada Health Infoway, given its lack of results. The Liberal MP responded by talking about the government's general approach to health care spending and a $5 billion fund to help provinces build hospitals, without directly addressing the specific question about Canada Health Infoway's spending.

“I want to talk about Canada Health Infoway. I think it's good that Ottawa tries to use technology to improve healthcare. I think the government has a role to play in advancing technology and showing leadership. Even if the provinces don't always follow, it's good for the government to try. It doesn't matter if we change our goals later. The important thing is that the government should spend money on technology in healthcare. It will help doctors and patients. It will make our healthcare system stronger in the end.”

“I'm throwing out numbers to make me sound smart. I don't actually have a plan for hospitals. I think we should use technology, but I don't know how. I want to sound like a leader without actually leading.”
