Government Priorities

During question period on government priorities, the Bloc Québécois said the Prime Minister says one thing and does another, pointing to his campaign platform’s emphasis on climate change while a pipeline moves ahead, and arguing the government keeps giving in to American tariffs. The Liberal reply defended the government’s record in Quebec, citing $10 billion for infrastructure such as hospitals, public transit and schools, a groceries and essentials benefit for millions of Quebeckers, reductions in child poverty, and funding for transit, port and rail projects, and said the Bloc Québécois has accomplished little over 30 years.Written by AI from the debate. “The Prime Minister says one thing and does another. He talked about climate change in the election, but he is building a pipeline instead. He said he would deal with American tariffs, but he just keeps giving in to Donald Trump. How much longer does he think he can keep doing this?”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister has a bad habit of saying one thing and doing another. For example, in his campaign platform, the phrase “climate change” appeared 28 times, while the word “pipeline” did not appear even once, yet it is his pipeline that takes priority. Another example is that he said he would deal with the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump last July. In the meantime, he keeps making concessions to Donald Trump, who was still insisting as recently as yesterday that he wants nothing to do with free trade. Does the Prime Minister think he can keep saying one thing and doing another for much longer?

“Our government has done a lot for Quebec. We gave $10 billion for schools, transit, and hospitals. We help people buy food and we cut child poverty by 40%. We are also paying for major transit, port, and rail projects. The Bloc Québécois has done nothing in 30 years.”

Mr. Speaker, they want to talk about our record, then let us talk about it. This government’s record includes $10 billion in infrastructure for hospitals, public transit and schools in Quebec. Our record includes three million Quebeckers who will receive the Canada groceries and essentials benefit. Our record includes reducing child poverty by 40% through the Canada child benefit, which helps thousands of families in Quebec. Our record includes Contrecœur, Nouveau Monde Graphite, and the Quebec City tramway project, which we are funding 40% of. Our record includes high-speed rail from Quebec City to Toronto, which is essential. Good luck finding the Bloc Québécois’ record for the past 30 years.
