Canadian Oil

During Statements by Members, a Conservative member raised the cost of fuel. He said Canada’s oil reserves are among the largest in the world, and argued that Liberal taxes over the past eleven years have made fuel expensive and limited Canada’s ability to refine and move its own fuel, raising costs for workers and families. He called on the government to adopt the Conservative plan to cut diesel taxes, approve energy projects faster, and increase domestic fuel production to improve affordability.Written by AI from the debate. “Canada has a lot of oil, but fuel is too expensive because of Liberal taxes. These taxes stop us from refining and moving our own fuel, which raises prices for workers and families. The government should adopt the Conservative plan. We want to cut diesel taxes, approve energy projects faster, and produce our own fuel to make Canada more affordable.”

Mr. Speaker, I used to have a red tractor, but I sold it because diesel got too expensive. The “reds” and the economy do not go well together. With the fourth-largest oil reserves in the world, there is no reason why Canadians should be paying so much for fuel. For the past 11 years, Liberal taxes have been holding back projects that would enable us to refine and transport Canadian fuel across the country. When our farmers, truck drivers and contractors have to pay more to do their jobs, every family ends up paying the price. Our pressure on the Liberal government has already led to the suspension of the federal excise tax on fuel and the extension of that tax relief. We will continue to fight for all Canadians. Our Conservative plan is clear: Eliminate taxes on diesel until 2027, remove taxes that penalize diesel production, speed up approvals, offer a 100% deduction for energy investments and create a strategic reserve of refined fuel. We need to produce fuel at home, be self-sufficient and make our country more affordable.
