What Bill C-219 would do

The bill would allow sanctions for transnational repression under existing foreign sanctions laws and deny Canadian visas to immediate family members of sanctioned foreign nationals. It would require the RCMP and FINTRAC to share relevant information with the Minister of Foreign Affairs to help enforce sanctions. The bill would also ban broadcasting licences for broadcasters influenced by sanctioned figures or foreign entities recognized by Parliament as having committed genocide, and it would increase penalties under the Special Economic Measures Act.
