The Economy

During question period on the economy, members focused on affordability and the cost of living. A Conservative member said food, housing and everyday bills have become too expensive for many Canadians after eleven years of Liberal government, and asked the government to acknowledge this. A Liberal minister replied that the government has taken measures such as removing the excise tax on gasoline, launching a heat pump program, and expanding child care and food and housing supports, and said the Conservatives have voted against these measures rather than supporting them.Written by AI from the debate. Conservative
“Under this Liberal government, food, housing, and bills cost too much. I want the government to admit that Canadians cannot afford to live after 11 years of their rule.”
Official Hansard

Madam Speaker, Thanksgiving is supposed to be about sitting down with one’s family and being thankful for what one has. However, for far too many Canadians, that dinner table has become a place where they sit down and worry about how they are going to make ends meet. Under the Liberal government, groceries cost more, housing costs more and the bills keep piling up. Canadians do not need more talking points. They need results. Can the government finally admit that, after 11 years of Liberal rule, Canadians are facing an unprecedented affordability crisis?
